If you’ve ever wanted to get new countertops but weren’t sure where to start or what to look for, then you’ve come to the right place. In this video, custom builder and product expert Nigel Maynard gives five tips on getting the ideal countertop for your kitchen or workspace for that matter.
You might have limitations depending on your budget, but if you can afford it, you may be able to select from a variety of countertop materials like quartz, granite, soapstone, exotic hardwoods, and ultra-compact surfacing.
It’s all about balance and exploring alternatives
Nigel Maynard recommends finding a balance between the budget for material and durability. For instance, you may have a smaller budget, but this does not mean the quality has to be bad too.
Go for alternative materials that are durable and might not be listed under the usual countertop options, like renewable or salvaged materials.
Use locally sourced wood and skip the exotic types
Exotic woods like teak have a bigger price tag than regular wood like maple, thus, a less expensive option for a wood countertop.
Another affordable and sustainable product is concrete
Concrete can be reused and repurposed, making beautiful and some of the best countertop replacement choices without a high price tag. However, it may require a bit more maintenance.
Use leftover materials like remanets of stone as this makes for a durable countertop or tile and offers more affordability.
